Grade 9-12 podcast

For thousands of years, travelers have been hearing noises in the desert. It sounds like the wind, but it's not. Its the sand dunes. A research team came from California to observe what is causing all the noise. So they go to Death Valley in California to do some research on the different types of dunes and what is responsible for the sounds.
It is due to the Booming dunes. There are a couple of layers to a dune. There is a soft top layer and a hard moist layer that keeps the sand from caving in or sliding. The researchers say that They make sounds because all the sand particle are the same size, that way they can make the same sound.
